Peltophorum dubium (Spreng.) Taub. is a species belonging to the family Fabaceae, and is known popularly as golden shower tree. Its wood has multiple uses in reforestation programs and as an ornamental tree, and is also considered an endangered species, requiring studies that assist in its preservation. The present work was conducted with the objective of determine the ideal substrate type and temperature to perform germination and vigor tests with P. dubium seeds. The experiment was carried out at the Seed Analysis Laboratory (Centro de Ciências Agrárias, Universidade Federal Paraíba, Areia, Paraíba, Brazil), in a completely randomized design. The treatments were distributed in a 4 x 6 factorial scheme; temperatures (constant temperatures of 25, 30 and... |

Diptychandra aurantiaca is a tree belonging to the Fabaceae family. The wood of this tree is moderately heavy and resistant, and it is used to make posts, wooden sleepers and building, among other structures. The aim of this work was to evaluate seed germination and the initial growth of the primary roots in D. aurantiaca at different temperatures using seeds collected in the village of Taboco in Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil. The seeds were subjected to constant temperatures of 20, 25, 30 and 35°C and alternating temperatures of 20-30 and 25-35°C using four replications of 25 seeds per treatment in a germination chamber. The results showed that most seeds germinated at 25 and 30°C, with 97 and 87%, respectively, thus indicating that these temperatures... |

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the tolerance of C. leprosum seedlings to salt stress during the emergence and early seedling development. The experiment was carried out between the months of August and September, in a greenhouse, and the substrate used was the commercial coconut fiber wetted with aqueous solutions of sodium chloride (NaCl), calcium chloride (CaCl2) and potassium chloride (KCl) with the electrical conductivities of 0.0, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5 and 6.5 dS m-1. We used a completely randomized design in a 3 x 7 factorial scheme (three salts x seven levels of electrical conductivity). We evaluated seedling emergence, emergence speed index, root length, shoot length, dry matter of roots and shoots. The results indicated significant... |

Tabebuia serratifolia is used for the reforestation of degraded areas. Despite protection by law for permanent preservation, the species is in danger of extinction due to improper exploitation. With the objective to aid preservation and long term storage of the species we evaluated morphophysiological alterations of T. serratifolia seeds during the maturation process in order to identify markers that can be used for harvesting and storage. Fruits were collected at anthesis and seven developmental stages from trees growing in Lavras, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. At each harvest, fruits and seeds were evaluated for color and size, moisture content, dry matter, internal morphology (by X-ray analysis), germination parameters (in vitro and ex vitro), as well... |

The objective of this study is to characterize two lots of Luehea divaricate seeds, as its physiological and sanitary quality. Seeds were collected in the municipalities of Santa Maria (SM) and Restinga Seca (RES), located inthe central region of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. Germination tests and fungi transmission were conducted in commercial substrate Carolina Soil®. The variables determined were germination indices (GI), emergency (%), symptomatic seedlings (%) and dead seeds (%).The fungi were detected using PDA test and substrate filter paper (PF). For each test it was used four replicates of 25 seeds. It has been also determined the sanity of the fruits using blotter test. The GI and percentage of emergence varied between 6.7 and 8.7 and 51 and... |

ABSTRACT The knowledge concerning the physiology of germination in saline areas may contribute to the development of more efficient cultural practices and adequate choice of planting areas. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of saline and temperature stress on germination and vigor of Piptadenia moniliformis (a species known in Brazil as "catanduva") seeds. The treatments were distributed according to a completely randomized design in accordance with a 3 x 6 factorial arrangement (temperature x osmotic potential), with four replicates of 25 seeds each. The seeds were put to germinate at constant temperatures of 25, 30, and 35 °C on paper towel moistened in distilled water (0.0) and NaCl solutions at 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0... |

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to determine the most appropriate conditions of temperature and substrate for germination and performance of A. niopoides seedlings. The design was completely randomized in 10x7 factorial arrangement (eight constant temperatures of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40°C and two alternating temperatures of 20-30 and 25-35°C, and seven substrates, that are paper towel, vermiculite, sand, blotting paper, coir dust, sugarcane bagasse, and tropstrato®) with four replicates of 25 seeds. The following variables were analyzed: (1) germination percentage; (2) germination speed index; (3) shoot length and primary root; and (4) dry weight of shoot and of root system. There was a significant interaction among the tested factors for all... |

Erythroxylum pauferrense is an endemic understory plant species of the Northeast Region of Brazil. The species is of great importance to the region and so ecophysiological studies are needed for its preservation. The objective of the present study was to determine the best substrates and temperatures for testing germination and seed vigor of E. pauferrense. An experiment was performed comprising a completely randomized design in a 5 x 4 factorial scheme, with five temperature regimes (20, 25, 30, 35°C constant and 20-30°C alternating) and four types of substrates (paper, vermiculite, sand and commercial substrate). The following characteristics were evaluated: germination percentage, first germination count, germination speed index, mean germination time,... |
